Today was my late grandmother Ellen Neel’s birthday.

She did a lot increase the awareness and appreciation of our traditional culture. Among her accomplishments she was known as the first woman carver, and the first N.W.C. Native artist to use silk screen printing. She returned the Sky World much too young— just 49 years old.
